I think that you are both correct! Oracle refer to 8.1.x as a product family *and* as Release 1, Release 2 etc. What would clinch it for me is the suggestion that 8.1.7 cannot be installed over the top of 8.1.5. Unfortunately i don't know which of you is correct.
