Are you asking about how to keep the trace directory from filling or individual trace files from hitting their limits?

Oracle trace file size is limited by the setting of the init.ora parameter: max_dump_file_size. If your trace output hits this limit Oracle stops writing to the trace file. The v$parameter views shows that you can increase the limit at the session level if you know that your trace will exceed the system wide limit before you run a trace job.

If you are worried about or having problems filling the trace directory then the three things I can recommend are 1 - set the max_dump_file_size parameter to a reasonable size; 2 - allocate the trace directory to a file system that has adequate room, and 3 - run a daily or perhaps more frequent job that removes old trace files and perhaps files that exceed a certain limit.
