Hi folks,

Being kind of an oracle newbie, I suffer some strange problems: I had Oracle 8i up and running perfectly well on my w2k machine. I was able to do backups and exports from out of the console. Next day, the export failed due to an authentication error which must have come out of a sudden since nothing in configuration was changed. I set a new system password for the default node user which solved this problem. Now a protocol adapter error was announced. I shut down and rebootet the entire system and now, console doesn't see my database anymore, though all services ar started. What's this?

TNSNames.ora lists the database correctly. Services.ora lists only the node.
I restarted the agent several times but that won't help either.

Could this be a problem resulting from the use of a firewall? It's F- s - though turning it off makes no difference.

I heard something about turning on tracing but I'm not quite sure where that switch might be...
