Oracle and Tomcat

Any idea why a database connection in tomcat can be specified like: url = jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:dbname user=username
password=11010810810918818519
(Note: all numbers ).

whereas the actual password for the user ( username ) is something like ABCDXYZ. Oracle 8.1.t in Win2K.
