I use 2 e4500s + 4 a5200s.
I control everything on those machines:
Databases, Volume Manager, Cluster server, OS, etc. Therefore I know the layouts behind the scene and I believe it's all managable, although sometimes a big pain..

Two advices I have:
*use RAID10 instead of 0+1
*Try to work w/ switches instead of hubs and implement Full Fabric (easier to deal w/ problems), if you're going to use Arbitrated Loop, try to go for split loop (for performance enhancements)

I don't recommend implementing it, if you're not going to have total control in data layout.
