There are a couple of issues with gclib, Oracle 8.1.7 and Red Hat 7.1 and later.

First, with the upgrade make sure that you install the compatibility packages. There are three of them that provides backwards compatibility with RH6.1 binaries (which is basically what 8.1.7 is). Just do a search for "compat" in Package Manager.

Next, you may need to install the Ora817 patch for Red Hat 7.1. You can get it from Metalink:

Read these notes and download the patch.
