Wonderful text editor (and general purpose development environment:-).  I would not use it as a subsitute for a good hex editor.

I have an editor called HexEdit (http://www.expertcomsoft.com) which has been used to edit database files of 60 Gbytes under NTFS (yes GB not MB) in size and has a nice user interface.

There is also a free version that fits your needs well.
