You also may want to search the Metalink regarding an issue which relates to migrating a dump file between platforms (typically 32 bit to 64 bit) that have different byte order "little Endian or Big Endian". I don't know if Solaris 2.6 and 2.8 have different byte order but if it is, then you can search the article on Metalink using keyword "Endian". I read this article a while back and don't have the DocID...sorry. -:)
