Does a db upgrade change the SQL parser ?

Hello,

we have just upgraded our db from 8.0.5 to 8.1.7, and now some SQL- and Forms Developers start
complaining about a changed SQL parsing behavior. It affected only a few statements over all,
but they can show me some different Explain Plans and some error messages for statements
that were compiled without problems before. And, although a public synonym is still there, with all privilges needed, we somtimes see
"ORA-00980 synonym translation is no longer valid". This is only the case of a (large) table in a
schema (lets say "Y"), while most of our tables are in schema "X".

Is there anybody here who has some experience with db upgrading, who has made some similar
observations ?

ThanX in advance,
