Richard's right.
This is a common frustration when using OEM as a novice.
Since the OEM console can run from anywhere i.e. does not have to be directly located at the database server and neither does the OMS then why should import work ?
Import is an external utility program and as such the oracle recommended way of doing it is to queue a job via DBMS_JOB. In order to have the functionality to build and maintain this DBMS_JOB and store the results, oracle needs the OMS server.
-> Import, export, analyze and a gang of other tools won't work from OEM
without OMS.
(oh and OMS must be able to talk properly to the databases you want to work
on - so ya need the Agents etc etc etc )
However OMS is easy enough to set up and is quite helpful.
PS as Richard said, there's no problem doing it yourself.
Be a man and use 'imp'
