snapshot and "need compile" state problem

Hello folks,
could someone explain under which condition snapshot's status changes from "valid" to "needs compile" or "error" ?
Is it possible that a simple DML statement on the master table causes such a change ?
I am having troubles refreshing views regularly (every 30 seconds or so), it seems that at some point the update causes a recompilation of an object being used, which depends on the snapshot, and this causes a severe locking problem in the db.
Snapshot queries are fairly simple, just select statements with a group by clause, no more no less.

Any ideas ?

Thanx in advance,
