Right after it's created, it should be much less than 1MB, not 10MB. I tested on Solaris 2.6, Oracle 8.1.7.2, a tempfile of any size is 128KB (ls -s gives the blocks of size 512 bytes). On Solaris 2.6, Oracle 9i, it's 96KB. On Solaris 8 Oracle 8.1.7.0, it's 96KB.
