Hi !
I'm trying to get the best out of rman on my server :
The size of my DB is 650 Gb.
Oracle version is 8.1.6.3
OS is Solaris 2.6
Netbackup version is 3.4
When performing full backup (incr level 0) to tape via Netbackup, the backup lasts 9 hours.
I use 2 channels, as I have only 2 tape drives directly attached to the system.
backup_tape_io_slaves is set to TRUE
I've set db_file_direct_io_count to 128, as my db_block_size is 8k, to have a 1 Mb buffer size
(maximum value for the OS)
I've set the BLKSIZE variable to 256 k.
All other params related to RMAN are default ones. It seems that we do not overload the tape devices, using about 50 % of the max. bandwidth of the tape drives.
I need hints to reduce the backup time.
I thought about boucing up the output buffers (say 1Mo) and adding 2 more channels. What about fileperset and maxonpenfiles ? Should I let them set to the default value of 64 ? I sound a lot (128 files per tape drive...)
The large pool needed for this should be a little bit more than 1 Gb...
Do someone have a real experience with this kind of problem ?
HEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP !!!
