Go to 8.1.7.6, one of the latest versions of 8 ... and be aware that 8 is using more memory (approx +10%) than 7 ... Oracle 9 is even more demanding on memory and system resources !!

PS : The earlier versions of 8 (8.0.3, 8.0.5) are de-supported and were not the best Oracle versions (memory leaks, ORA-600, ...) target one of the lastest 8.1.7 versions if you don't really need 9i, besides support - although unofficial - will be BETTER for 8 than 9 as they (and we on the net) know much more about 8 than 9 ...
