Connect via simple name

Hi all,

I have installed an Oracle 8.1.7 database on Solaris8. This is to be used with a DMS that we resell.
For some reason (that is totally beyond me) the (windoze) DMS client, which connects using ODBC needs a 'simple' TNS name.

I can run odbctest successfully as long as in tnsnames.ora I use doku.domain.at
I need to be able to run odbctest with just doku. If that matters the hostname is also doku and I can ping it with just doku or doku.domain.at

If that sounds totally confused, you get it right, because I am.

Thanks for ANY light,
