Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> PMON will not start on database creation: error ORA-00445
I am trying to create a database after just installing Oracle 8.1.7.
The OS
is SuSE 8.0. I have ensured that I have a high enough value for
SHMMAX (128 Meg) and have enought swap space. Yet every time I try to
create the database I get the error message:
ORA-00445: background process "PMON" did not start after 120 seconds
All the trace files seem to be about the same. The first trace file
has the
following first 40 or so lines:
/opt/oracle/oracle8.1.7/rdbms/log/ora_906.trc
Oracle8i Release 8.1.7.0.1 - Production
JServer Release 8.1.7.0.1 - Production

I've looked through past messages containing this error but nothing
seemed to
help. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
