Hello all,

I've inherited a 140GB data warehouse that recently went live (Oracle 8171, Solaris 2.8).

The next step in our process is to implement a scalable reporting system. Our current Crystal Reports implementation is reaching it's limit, and we are looking to replace it with something with more muscle. We find that we often have to change process or code to accomodate the requirements of Crystal Reports, which has become unacceptable.

Our reporting system is used currently only internally (~10 users), but there will be plans in the next year or so to create a portal in which we will allow customers to generate reports as part of our customer service (large "x" number of users). Our report system will consist of both pre-cooked report display, and pre-designed parameterized reporting thru a web page/site. This will not consist of ad-hoc queries or ad-hoc tools against the reporting system (no discoverer, SQL*Plus, etc. for the users, only administrators).

My first notion would be to go with 9iAS, but my manager wants to come up with a list of leaders in this application. I am used to using Oracle tools (Oracle Reports), so I'm not sure what else is out there.  Who are the market leaders?

What reporting tools/services have you implemented that works well that you can recommend? I realize that I have provided a high level of detail...thus high level answers are acceptable.

Thank you for your time. Please feel free to address me personally at giddytonk_at_NOSPAMPLEEZyahoo.com. Received on Thu Jun 20 2002 - 16:28:09 CDT
