I think Anjo's site at precise software has a paper on this. And Jonathan's might also. Haven't tried Tom's, but most likely there will be something in there too.

Search on spin_count and on buffer_busy_waits. And READ before you do ANY changes. Better yet, check here for peer review before you throw big changes to your setup.
