Hmm. I think Java actually does rely on windows. That is why having screamed at them for trying to derail Java, Sun are now screaming at MS for saying very well then we won't play ball and we won't install a JVM. I maybe (and hope I am) wrong but if Java becomes a missing species on windows then most probably it will die.
