Using 1% is the probably one of the worst possible values, as it allows very irritating slippage.

Back in the days of 6.0.33, I used to insist that 0 was the ONLY sensible value, but eventually I worked out after a few years that there was actually a good alternative, which was 100%.

Of course, as soon as MINIMUM EXTENT became available, it really ceased to matter, beyond the fact that any value other than 0 would make smon do some pointless work.
