Re: desc <broad_table> => ORA-12592: TNS:bad packet

Thanks to all who answered. The solution to the problem actually was alterinng the client's tnsnames.ora. Instead of (SERVER=SHARED) a (SERVER=DEDICATED) did it.

This seems to be decribed in bug 1519547.
