Sure.
You did made sure the oratab actually has the 3rd column as Y You did check the alert<SID>.log for this database? Also: the proper location of the init.ora is $ORACLE_HOME/dbs, it should be linked *from* the $ORACLE_SID/pfile directory, NOT the other way around.
