I think the problem is likely with the fact that you are running an unsupported version of Oracle in what is basically an unstable configuration: Meaning VB and likely ODBC.

My suggestion would be to explore other ODBC drivers and to upgrade to the latest release 8.1.7. If you can't upgrade your Oracle at least make sure you have all available patches.

Also you might go to the latest service pack for Windows with any subsequent patches there too.

In the end ... 8.0.5 is not a good place to be. Especially for your resume'.
