Pardon me for jumping in, and I may be way off base since I didn't catch the first of this thread. We went' through much grief trying to get replication working, and still don't understand half of what we know. We finally got on the right path after meeting with some DBAs at a nearby site that had been using replication for some time. Turns out most of our problems resulted from a misunderstanding about the use of a snapshot site vs. a master site. We were looking through the proverbial telescope from the wrong end, so to speak. Once we got our thinking turned around, a lot of things fell into place. There were still some nasty 'gotchas' but they were much easier to deal with at that point.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you just can't seem to make sense of the whole thing, you might want to post a description of your business problem rather than focus on specific hurdles. Could be you're running the wrong way, as we were.
