Hmmm, purely as speculation, really OT:

• make the disks wider (easier to dissipate the heat).
• Don't use conventional actuators. Use multiple thin film technology heads on a half platter in a spiral pattern. Then twist the platter on an axis off-centre from the real data platters, to reach all cylinders.

That's MOL how the old Sperry drive worked. Used two or three platters to spread load. Should be easy as pie with today's tech.
