Someone else has already answered these questions. One thing I would like to add is that if (as it sounds from the questions) you don't have much experience with RAC there are certified configurations available for RAC. These are configurations that come from a variety of hardware vendors (including Compaq and DELL) where RAC is already pre-installed on the box with a database pre-built. That may be the best approach for you.
