Pls specify which version/patchlevel you're on. Also :

- what init.ora values are being used
- what kind of sql is being fired
- is the proliant a dedicated oracle database server
- how much virtual memory is configured on the proliant

This could be either a configuration problem (init.ora related) or a memory leak
