I received the same error when installing 9i on Red Hat 7.2 Try this
edit $OH/bin/genclntch
change LD_SELF_CONTAINED="-z defs"
to
LD_SELF_CONTAINED=" " then execute that script

within a minute you should see that a file is created and then you can continue with the installation.

This worked for red hat 7.2 oracle 9.0.1
