Oracle 9i Solaris 8 SGA Memory Fencing, Pagins, Optimization

Hello,

With the changes to the way Solaris 8 handles 'fenced' or 'pinned' memory, it seems like use_ism=true, which became a hidden, default parameter as of Oracle 8i, is not really making a difference. Everything I've read about Oracle optimization says SGA memory must be pinned, and my vmstat while running medium sized queries show 'pi' and 'sr' numbers in the *thousands* (yikes) over short intervals. From reading Sun's documentation on kernel parameters, it doesn't look like pinning is recommended/supported in Solaris 8, so should I just relax and let Solaris do its thing or should those high vmstat numbers still be cause for concern?

Thanks,
