I am planning to upgrade several production databases from 817 to 8172 on an SGI IRIX64 server. I want to do it one database at a time. My plan is to install 817 again into a 2nd oracle home directory, apply the 8172 patchset to that home, and then begin switching one database at a time from one version to the other. My question is "will this cause problems for databases running 8170 from in old oracle home?".
