Readonly tablespace on cd-rom.

Hi oracle experts,
has anybody put a tablespace on a cd-rom? I have an oracle 8.1.6 running on an alpha system (Unix Tru64 4.0G) and I have put a tablespace on a cd-rom, but when I try a select command on the table which is on that tablespace I get an ORA-01157 followed by an ORA-01110 and an ORA-27086. Besides the operating system gives the following error:
Error 45: Operation not supported on socket Additional information: 8

It seems that the operating system is trying to pwrform some writing and locking procedures on the mounted cdrom which (obviously) read-only.
