Oracle Gurus,
I am a destop engineer and have been involved in troubleshooting a connectivity issue to an Oracle box.
Problem:
We have an application connecting to an Oracle box which works fine
when run on any platform (i.e 95/98, NT,2000 or XP) on any desktop
through LAN or Dialup connection but fails with "END-OF-FILE on
communication channel" under following circumstances:
To conclude,
1. Windows 2000 pro when connected through LAN it is OK. 2. Windows 2000 pro on Desktop over LAN/Dialup is OK. 3. 95/98, NT or XP over LAN/Dialup and Desktop/Laptop all OK. 4. Only Windows 2000 pro over Dialup and on Laptop NOT OK.
The dial up connection drops out and the oracle errors show up. It seems that windows 2000 default modem settings or TCP/IP settings over a dialup differ from other platforms resulting in a failed connection, again this is my guess.
After the "END-OF-FILE on communication channel error(ORA-03113)", the next which follow is "HOSTDEF Extension doesn't exist (ORA-01041)"
I do realise that I am not providing you enough information on the subject but being a desktop guy that is all I know and unfortunately stuck with the problem as it is believed that it could be resolved changing TCP/IP or modem parameter in windows 2000 registry.
Please Help!!!
Many thanks in advance.
