Have DB Writer Retry Writes to the Control File

We keep getting hung up when the database tries to write to the control file when the file is being backed up and/or virus scanned. Isn't there a parameter somewhere to have the DB Writer retry after a period of time rather than hanging the database right away? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
