OSS is obsolete, unfortunately.

As to the solution, I would suggest using public-key certificates which would be stored in OID. OID is an LDAP directory so that would solve the LDAP-compliance problem.

If LDAP weren't a concern, I would suggest Kerberos as a possibility.
