Go with the HP solution. I work for a vendor, and it is my job to spec out the systems for our solutions. Variations in performace, and even reliability, are more than compensated for by in house experience with a give solution, and positive vendor relationship. Our app is database/platform independent to a large degree, and I've put in systems on just about everything from intel servers running OS/2, to IBM 390s.
