The only thing of interest in the alert log, which I guess is the problem is the below. Problem is, the control1.dbf file does exist, and opening the database thru DBA Studio works everytime.

ALTER DATABASE MOUNT

ORA-00202: controlfile: 'd:\oracle\prd8\cntrl\control1.dbf'
ORA-27041: unable to open file
OSD-04002: unable to open file
O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.

ORA-205 signalled during: ALTER DATABASE MOUNT...
