Just a suspicion but ... The first thing, and most important thing, is that Oracle is NOT SQL Server. Your use of the word databases is not in-line with Oracle terminology ... and what you mean is schemas.

There are no drawbacks to multiple schemas in an instance. The benefit is ease of management.
