Hi all,

I have three servers and I want to set a fault tolerant database servers with Oracle 8i. Two server A & B are DB instance servers. Server A has DB instance 1 active and DB instance 2 standby. Server B has DB instance 2 active and DB instance 1 standby. Instance 1 and 2 have different functions. And both servers and DB instances access the DB storage server C which has a RAID system. So when Server A failed, DB instance 1 on Server B can be active to handle the job, or if Server B failed, DB instance 2 on Server A can take the jobs. . I know Oracle has Parallel Server System , Standby database, etc can do this , but I have no idea how to set them.

Any one can give me any suggestions on how to set this environment? What software do I have to use? OPS? Standby Database? Where can I get them. What hardware do I have to use? (seems it requires "clustering" something, I don't know)

Thanks
