     Previous post says it best - nothing beats real world experience.
     You can learn a lot from a linux/oracle combination. We have
clients that are using that technology in business critical environments. But you will learn best if you're in a production environment with developer interaction. That should cover all the bases.

     You probably already know enough generic SQL to get a great start on learning those things that make Oracle Oracle ... like SQl*Plus and PL/SQL. That will be a good place to start.

     You'll need to know about Net8 in the real world, so you made need 2 linux/oracle boxes.

     Performance tuing, both of the database and the code is critical to keep a production system running smoothly. One little query can

dog a system, and a poorly tuned system costs a company real dollars.
     Finally, there's all the dba work required: adding datafiles,
adding users, assigning roles, working with sysadmins, etc, etc, etc.
     I've just covered the topics in Oracle's Certification program
for DBAs.  A path you might want to consider.
