Jakob,
I faced exactly the same problem some week ago with an application written by an external consultant company. I posed a question similar to yours on this NG and someone suggested me to tell the developers to fix this invalid syntax. Luckily enough, they accepted! :) Apart from that, I have no other clue, sorry.
