Can't start Oracle 8.1.5

I am having trouble getting Oracle to start up on my new XP Pro machine. It seems to start fine when it is first installed (I have installed/deinstalled numerous times) but when I reboot, the Oracle Service for the SID just says starting and never completes. The only Oracle software installed is 8.1.5.0. The machine is running Windows XP/PRO

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
