I'm trying to install the Oracle8i Client libraries on a Linux web server
to that it can communicate with an Oracle database but I'm having problems
just getting beyond the install. I've done many installs on the Solaris
platform and some on Linux kernels < 2.4.4.
When running the Oracle 8.1.7 for Linux installation script, runInstaller, the process hangs on the following:
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from
../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/linux/bin/jre.
Please wait...
Things I've done:
- Made sure required were installed such as nm, make, etc, where available
to the oracle user.
- Created oracle user and dba group with proper umask and directory
permissions (ORACLE_HOME)
- Modified profile to define ORACLE_HOME environment variable - Tested X11
packets will being forward to my workstation (xclock)
Technical Specs:
Red Hat 7.2 with kernel 2.4.7-10smp
Downloaded Oracle8i Linux tar ball version Release 3 (8.1.7.0.0)
If you have any suggestions or have come across the same problem with a fix please respond to this post.
