I think you'll find matrices is actually Greek (and thus, perhaps bizzarely,
perfectly good English)!
I have to confess that constant talk of indexes always has me feeling nervous that some classicly-trained DBA is going to yell at me for crass ignorance: "Indices, laddie.... indices!!"
