I'm using TNS (with tcp/ip) across many database versions without a problem; the TNS is compatible with previous Oracle versions. No sweat.

One suggestion: If you have multiple versions (ORACLE_HOME)'s on the same server, I'd suggest starting the listener from the most recent ORACLE_HOME. eg. Start the listener from the 817 ORACLE_HOME; not a 7.3.3 ORACLE_HOME. Hope this helps. Received on Wed Feb 13 2002 - 15:13:06 CST
