client connection problem

I just installed Oracle client 8.1.7 on my nt4workstation pc
In net8 assistant I defined a service name=test,sid=orcl,tcp/ip
host=server name port=1521.My database is 8.0.4
Then I choosed sqlplus :


username:scott


password:tiger


string:test


and got error ora-12705:invalid or unknown nls parameter value given,
