Can I RAC an existing single instance database?

I currently have a single instance 8i database and will be setting up
a 2-node cluster (9i RAC). Is it possible to use my existing datafiles
for this new cluster? Or do i have to create a new database, recreate
all the users and roles, and then export the old database and import
it into the cluster?
