What do you mean with "usually run on" and "runs mostly" ? You haven't specified units you're using. I'll give you an example from company which I'm working for. By numbers we have much more Oracle databases on NTs than on Unix servers. However all big and important ones are (of course) on Unix. So are we running Oracle databases mostly on NTs ? I do not know. Response depends if you're looking for numbers or importance and size factor. If you're counting database for small branch office with the same weight as TB+ data warehouse, then NTs will prevail, but in size/importance numbers UNIXs are holding very well.

If you want to work in IT business in enterprise scale, then learning UNIX is a must. I do not think that JAVA is essential for Oracle DBA, but everything you know is advantage in this job. Even knowing how to make a good coffee can help. :-)

Note: pagesflames_at_usa.net has been cancelled due to changes (maybe we
can call it an overture to bankruptcy) on that server. I'm still using
this email to prevent SPAM. Maybe one day I will change it and have a
proper mail even for news, but right now I can be reached by this
email.
