In many cases, Internet outages have nothing to do with the server itself.

(*) The router could be done.
(*) The name listings could be corrupted
(*) The cables may have been physically (Backhoe hits fiber optic line,
Undersea avalance cut submarine cable)
(*) DOS attack on server

etc.
