Hello Brian,
the same question arised for me. Found nothing in the original docs, but followed Thomas Kyte's advice in his book: go to google.com, do a search for 'alter session set events 10046' Short info on event numbers is available with oerr: eg: $ oerr ora 10046
10046, 00000, "enable SQL statement timing" // *Cause:
// *Action:

One of the search results was a link to orafaq (database internals faq): http://orafaq.cs.rmit.edu.au/faqdbain.htm # Trace SQL statements and show bind variables in trace output event = "10046 trace name context forever, level 12"
