One of my colleagues recently verified this installation 'method' with
Oracle Technical Support. The answer was the expected one: They don't
support it.
Which is correct as there is no guarantee the newer server comes with
*exactly* the same release of the O/S, identical patches etc, etc. My
thought was that at least a relink was necessary, but Oracle doesn't
support your solution at all.
